Have you checked out J. garrison's Wermspittle stuff - it seems very useful for that kind of gritty fantastic urbanism. I think the Underdark is a great environment for that sort of play, and I'm digging your background stuff so far.Jeff Russellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14017877412359840010noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4607464045429311026.post-28024515019536286482014-01-06T16:10:51.932-08:002014-01-06T16:10:51.932-08:00I like this; reminds me of Civilization in a good ...I like this; reminds me of Civilization in a good way. I think at first I't'd be dwarves mostly (fey are dead or have sunk into the green world [when Light adepts don't blast apart their fairy mounds to kill them], but dwarves have no magic and had to dig and move back in with their rusticated underground relatives).

Heck it wouldn't even be dwarves - rather rock trolls - little stone men. Other races would be the (relatively) benign colony based mole(rat) men, ancient decedent revenants (drow, but lichish), ogre hearders, lurkers (solitary trolls) and goblins-hobgoblins-bugbears (of the neutral mean kind) empire building everywhere.

Also yes to volunteers, chaplains mostly, and long rickety cage rides. Into scenario would be a railroad I think - or a cage ride.Gus Lhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14872819206286105195noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4607464045429311026.post-71137496389317547932014-01-06T11:13:44.278-08:002014-01-06T11:13:44.278-08:00I want to keep the math simple, and more granulari...I want to keep the math simple, and more granularity means more bookkeeping. This is still a GM fiat/ad hoc system for a tabletop game it need not be exacting.

Basically if you run out of necessities people start leaving, going mad and getting sick from living off bad forage and each other. I figure 1D2 HP loss per session without necessities for active PCs in the community prior to each session and a corresponding loss of some efficiency or citizens for the community. The way I figure it, starting with a stockpile of 2-3 necessities and using one every other session (as 50ish citizens), will require a save for the prisoner community every two sessions or so. After 2-3 failed saves (4-10 sessions) the players will start losing citizens/potential pcs.

If your party can't find 1,000 GP worth of treasure or hold onto a food resource in 4-10 sessions the Underdark deserves to eat them. Heck I might only give them 1 resource or make the topsiders demand 2,000 GP of treasure for each load of food just to make finding/holding/stealing a mushroom cave all the more important.Gus Lhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14872819206286105195noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4607464045429311026.post-57087090792448725942014-01-06T07:54:21.998-08:002014-01-06T07:54:21.998-08:00Very grim and excellent. It occurs to me that the underworld is the reflection kf the surface as it is held by chaos and evil as opposed to law and good.
I've some questions: are the "warriors" lowered down in a rickety old basket for like N hour before they hit the floor?
Do any of the real soldiers of the light come along? I'd think you'd get the occasional overzealous volunteer- or spy for the inquisitors.
Anyway, I like it very much. What happens if you don't have that point? Do all 100 die immediately? d100? d100 sickened/weakened?

Perhaps a little more granularity would help. If 1 point of necessities supported 10 people, you could keep the same ratios of investment (10 points of necessities to make 1 point of luxuries), and also allow for some smaller player victories. By that I mean, if it takes 1 point of necessities to support 100 people, then capturing a single stench kow or whatever means nothing - you'd have to capture the whole herd. But if one point supports 10, that single kow becomes meaningful, and that seems more in line with the feel of scarcity you seem to be aiming at.George Cassiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13101193600841751313noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4607464045429311026.post-17368916160004303442014-01-06T06:03:02.588-08:002014-01-06T06:03:02.588-08:00More please, i like the idea of a zero level start...More please, i like the idea of a zero level start domain game of sorts. its very rts and rpg combined Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08164338064534438655noreply@blogger.com
