Prison of the Hated Pretender - PDF

Prison of the Hated Pretender

A PDF of the Adventure Location that I wrote up on this very blog a few weeks ago. It's a small tower designed with 0 -1st level PC's in mind.  Nothing complicated, but there are some opportunities for things to go a little different than a normal dungeon crawl.
It's a merciless monster!
The link is HERE.  As always if you run it for someone let me know how it goes.

  1. Cool. Maybe I'll see if I can adapt it to a Weird Adventures-ian mode.

  2. @ Trey - That seems like it would be difficult - maybe in the Jungles of the South with the former El Jeffe? I think the one I posted with the rusted tank would be better suited.

    @mwschmeer - ... Thanks!

Thanks fellows - I think this one has the potential to be fun but not a TPK machine - the monsters are implacable though. Strangely it's the most straightforward scenery wise that I've written up - which I kind of like. It's introductory, use this and then roll out the Science Fantasy flying stone heads, cuthulus, android man bees and laser pistols.

  4. Dropped it in on an island after my players shipwrecked. They are spooked but intrigued, I'm guessing they are going to be coming back here once their curiosity gets the better of them.

  5. My players are about 2/3 of the way through the adventure now and love it. I'm using D&D 5e but im just winging the monster stats.

  6. The first page of the PDF doesn't print properly, showing up as a tiny 1" square.

    1. Odd - it seems like it comes up fine for me - have you tried picking it up from the PDF's to Download page?

  7. Is this good as a one-shot? I'd like to run it with some new players.

    1. Some have said so - it's 12 or so pages, it's designed mostly as a 1st adventure or funnel.

    2. Thanks for the fast reply. I'll add it to my binder of (so far only three adventures) that are intended to be one-shots for beginners who may not wish to continue RPGing after their first game.

      The others in there:
      Tomb of the Serpent Kings
      Tower of the Stargazer
      Tower of the Birds
Sleeping Place of the Feathered Swine

    3. And it's the winner! Feel free to ask me how it went if I don't report back. Is this your main social media? Do you use G+? Discord?

    4. Fun so far. The fighters are shooting arrows through the eye-windows at phantasms and the wizard is trying and failing to climb over the crown of the tower.

    6. We didn't really get to "finish" the one shot, exactly, but the wizard fled after being nearly killed, though with the Pretender's treasure (not the pumpkin.)

One fighter searched the bodies downstairs and equipped what she found.

The other fighter reunited the pretender and some phantasms, to keep both distracted. He then began to interrogate the sphere, as if it's alive. He keeps asking it for "force lightning" in various ways. We ran out of time when he was trying to find his companions so he could sacrifice one of them to it.

We had a great time. Thanks.
